With people revisiting the PS3 thanks to the ease of installing CFW or PS3HEN, one of the first upgrades many people perform is an internal storage upgrade. While upgrading from an old hard drive as small as 20 GB is great, it was also discovered that quite a bit of storage is reserved by the console and not accessible to us by normal means. A few years ago PSX-Place user einsteinx21 discovered a method of reclaiming this lost storage space and gaining back up to 8% of the total drive storage! This might not make a difference on super small hard drives, but reclaiming up to 8% storage on a 1 TB drive? Now we're talking... This tutorial assumes you already own a modified PS3, running either full CFW (Custom Firmware) or PS3HEN, and have the basic understanding of how to navigate it. (The SSD in this video is currently in my netbook) You get a whopping 1 THOUSAND Gigabytes and I only had to pay 99 dollars! I like downloading digital games and NOT having to read from the super slow blu ray drive on the PS3. The PS3 only has a Sata 2 interface, not Sata 3. So that's the bottleneck here. It's quite expensive having a 500GB SSD inside your PlayStation. I'd rather have it in my computer anyways, but damn they are expensive. If you use LESS than 120GB, DEFINITELY go with the 120GB PURE SSD from OCZ. The dashboard (PS interface) loads insanely quick and even retrieving messages is a very fast, compared to before where it would almost look empty for a second, before they would all start to load. A very big thank you goes to OCZ for providing me with the SSD that I used in this video. I hope the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox 720 (Infinity) allow us to use SSD's. In this video I will show you how to upgrade a PlayStation 3 12GB Slim to a 500GB Slim. Now the only thing you will going to need for this is a plastic membership card (like I am using in the video) or a credit-card, and don't use the one from your parents or the one from your girlfriend because when you are done with this install you wont be able to use the credit-card ever again. That being said, if your girlfriend is already spending to much then this guide will help you solve that issue in less then 10min :-) Sony does offer a HDD caddy, bracket (whatever you wanna call it) package. I think its about 10 euro's and I think its pretty much the same in US Dollars. Seeing am dutch and we don't like to pay more then we have to I have a trick to install a 500GB,1TB. Some stated they have succesfully installed a 1,5TB 2.5"drive in a PS3 Slim but that seems to be the max. Apart from a credit-card you will need a harddisk, any 2,5" will do ranging from 5400 to 7200rpm, it will even work with SSD's. I tried 500GB HDD 5400rpm and a 120GB SSD and the install is exactly the same, the SSD is just a wee bit faster :-) Make sure you watch this video closely and follow the instruction carefully, I will not be responsible for any damage which may occur if you decide to do this install on your own PS3, so if you decide to do this, do this at your own risk. Then again if you have a brain the size of a cow you will get this done in under 10min easy, just like me.
